A More Natural Approach to Wedding photography

Cardiff City Hall

One of the most popular places to hold a Cardiff Wedding is the City Hall. Located in the capital of South Wales, it sits amongst the manicured gardens and tree lined avenues of Cathays Park. Built in 1906 using Portland stone,it is a fine example of Edwardian Baroquestyle architecture. This majestic building not only houses Cardiff registry office, perfect for smaller marriage ceremonies. It also offers a choice of a sumptuous Council Chamber for up to 94 guests, an impressive Marble Hall for up to 150 guests and the majestic Assembly Room, which can hold 300 to 600 people. Together they can accommodate any type of conference, wedding or event. Below are some examples of my Cardiff City Hall Wedding Photography as featured in previous blog posts.

“Thank you so much for our beautiful wedding pictures! We received them this morning and we really couldn’t be happier with them! Every photo is just so beautiful and captures so well what was, for us, a happy, emotional and beautiful day even though the weather was atrocious! I was worried that the weather would lead to an array of dull photos which wouldn’t capture the beauty of our venues!
How wrong I was! And for that we can’t thank you enough, choosing you to photograph our day was one of the best choices we could have made.
Thank you once again from the bottom of our hearts.”

Wedding photography at Cardiff City Hall provides a beautiful blend of historic architecture, elegant interiors and striking city-centre exteriors, creating a timeless backdrop for capturing your special day. Cardiff City Hall’s Edwardian Baroque style, built from distinctive Portland stone, makes both indoor and outdoor photography genuinely memorable, from classic couple portraits to candid moments with family and friends.

Inside, there are several licensed spaces for ceremonies, each offering a different photographic character. The Marble Hall, with its ornate columns and stained-glass windows, lends itself to light-filled portraits and group shots, while the Council Chamber creates an intimate yet grand setting for weddings with up to around 94 guests. The Assembly Room’s richly decorated interior and grand staircases are ideal for larger ceremonies and dramatic entrance photos, giving photographers plenty of creative options.

Photographers also benefit from the venue’s marble corridors, grand entrance halls and ornamental details — perfect for capturing those in-between moments, emotional reactions, and the architectural elegance that frames your story.

Outside, the exterior of City Hall and surrounding gardens offer classic portrait opportunities with the building’s façade in the background, while nearby Alexandra Gardens provide leafy, scenic backdrops for relaxed couple and family photos.

Overall, Cardiff City Hall’s combination of historic grandeur and versatile photographic settings makes it an outstanding choice for couples who want wedding imagery that feels both elegant and authentically expressive of their day.

“Sacha was fantastic! I was very specific in wanting to capture the narrative of the day and that I wanted atmosphere over posed photographs.”

“I have a background in Fine Art and Sacha was the only wedding photographer I liked, so I was very happy that he was able to do our wedding. He even ran into the sea with us for some quirky shots in the wind and rain! He never complained despite getting soaked and the photos captured such a beautiful vibe of the day. I would highly recommend him.”

“Sacha was great in the lead up the wedding; listening and understanding what we wanted from the day as well as working with us to accommodate the different locations of the bridal party and ensuring photos were taken in all. On the day you hardly knew Sacha was there but the photos showed he was everywhere!! We are so happy and proud of the photos.”
