In December 2022, I photographed the winter wedding of Clare and Kieran at Sant Ffraed House in Monmouthshire, South Wales. At this time of year, the temperature and lack of daylight can keep the majority of a wedding day inside. This does worry some wedding photographers, who have a more posed approach, but for me whose ethos is to capture the day in natural, candid moments, it does offer abundant opportunities. This is because everyone is forced to huddle inside, surrounding the bar and sitting together in the lounge areas, creating a terrific party atmosphere early in the drinks reception. So it was today, Clare and Kieran did not really want to spend time away from their guests posing for photographs, this allowed for a plethora of candid photographs as people mingled. By the time the wedding breakfast was called, dusk was well under way and candles had been lit. Clare’s dress was designed by Eva Lendel and supplied by Laura May Bridal Boutique. Fortunately Clare has some useful friends, one bridesmaid was the professional make up artist from Beauty to Live For and her hair was by a friend who works at Navidi Hair Company. The flowers were provided by Davenport Floral Design and Events. On the day I was joined by Morgan Lewis, who produced a wonderful emotive, story telling film. It is always lovely to see former clients at weddings, as this is the way I get most of my business through recommendation from former bride and grooms. Six years ago I photographer the wedding of Clare’s sister and brother-in-law, Abigail and Owen, who held their celebration at Llanerch Vineyard.
