A More Natural Approach to Wedding Photography

Here are a few examples of my Pencoed House wedding photography. Pencoed House is set in 36 acres of Welsh countryside in the village of Capel Llanilltern, just north of Cardiff, South Wales. The estate was once home to a descendant of the King of Glamorgan. It was built by Jevan ap David, a Welsh nobleman in the early 15th century. The Gothic stone arch within the house’s architect suggests that it began life as monastery. These days however the ancient stone built barn has been converted to host weddings and events.

“We barely noticed he was there and as a result the photos are absolutely gorgeous and tell the story of the day so well. We had a lovely time looking through the finished product and we have no qualms recommending Sacha!”

“Sacha was so professional from start to finish at our wedding and we couldn’t have asked for anything more! At the request of a couple of our guests he did some staged photographs which were lovely but those that we wanted were absolutely stunning.”

Capturing your wedding day at Pencoed House is a truly enchanting experience for both couples and photographers alike. Nestled amongst 36 acres of lush South Wales countryside, this historic estate offers a variety of stunning backdrops that make every frame rich with atmosphere and emotion. From sweeping lawns and woodland paths to medieval stone walls and elegant interiors, Pencoed House blends rustic charm with timeless elegance, the ideal environment for beautiful wedding photography.

One of the defining qualities of Pencoed House Estate as a wedding photography venue is its versatility of settings. The venue’s ancient Manor House and Old Hall full of texture, character, and natural tones provide dramatic indoor shots that feel both grand and intimate. These spaces are perfect for classic couple portraits, artistic architectural details, and softly lit candid moments. Photographers often lead couples through these spaces to capture elegant compositions against original stonework and rich historical features that reflect Welsh heritage.

Beyond the buildings, the outdoor spaces at Pencoed House lend themselves beautifully to wedding photography. The long, tree-lined driveway creates a striking lead‑in for romantic couple portraits, while manicured gardens and shaded woodland areas offer a range of natural backdrops. Golden hour light filtering through trees or across rolling lawns adds warmth and depth to photos, making each image feel cinematic and full of life. Whether it’s a bright summer’s day with long daylight hours or a cool autumn afternoon with dramatic skies and rich foliage, the estate adapts to the seasons and delivers gorgeous lighting opportunities for photographers.

Many couples and photographers also praise how the narrative of the wedding day flows naturally around the estate. Unlike some venues where photos must be rushed between locations, Pencoed House allows the wedding day story to unfold without pressure. Photographers can move at a relaxed pace, documenting everything from the bride’s morning preparations through to candid moments at the reception. This approach results in galleries that tell a cohesive story not just a collection of posed shots and showcases genuine emotion and connection.

Another key advantage is how Pencoed House’s venue design encourages both formal portraits and informal storytelling. Garden games, drinks receptions on the patio, and joyful interactions between family and friends all offer photographers plenty of honest, unscripted moments to capture. These images often become the most treasured parts of a couple’s wedding album because they reflect the day as it truly was lively, heartfelt, and distinctly personal.

For photographers, the estate’s layout and lighting are also incredibly accommodating. Spacious interiors with natural light, sheltered outdoor areas for all-weather coverage, and wide landscapes for dramatic silhouette shots mean there’s minimal compromise in creative direction on the day. The secluded, serene setting allows couples to relax and enjoy each moment — and that ease always shows in the final images.

Ultimately, wedding photography at Pencoed House isn’t just about capturing pretty pictures, it’s about telling an authentic and unforgettable story in a setting that feels as unique and special as your relationship. With its rich history, beautiful grounds, and a wealth of inspiring photographic possibilities, this South Wales gem will help you preserve your wedding memories in truly breathtaking style.

“Sacha was fantastic! I was very specific in wanting to capture the narrative of the day and that I wanted atmosphere over posed photographs.”

“I have a background in Fine Art and Sacha was the only wedding photographer I liked, so I was very happy that he was able to do our wedding. He even ran into the sea with us for some quirky shots in the wind and rain! He never complained despite getting soaked and the photos captured such a beautiful vibe of the day. I would highly recommend him.”
