Here are a few photographs from Laura and Joseph’s beautiful home marquee wedding in the village of Ciliau Aeron, near Lampeter, West Wales. When Laura and Joseph first reached out to me, I thought I might be headed to Bangkok to photograph their wedding, where they both live and work as English teachers. Though in the end, it was a trip to the picturesque Welsh countryside that was in store for me. While it might have been a little less exotic, it was undeniably a stunning and memorable part of the world.

On that August weekend in 2024, I arrived at the bride’s family country home, cameras in hand, where Laura was getting ready with a few close friends. Meanwhile, the garden was being transformed into a beautiful ceremony space, complete with hay bales and blankets, where the couple’s family and friends would gather to witness their vows. A neighbouring field, kindly borrowed from a local farm, was the perfect spot for pitching the marquee, offering panoramic views of the unspoilt Welsh countryside that provided a truly magical backdrop for the celebration.

The groom, Joseph, was preparing with his friends in a quaint holiday cottage in the village. He soon made his way over to the garden to greet the arriving guests. Laura and Joseph had hired me to photograph their day because neither of them particularly enjoy posing for the camera. My natural, relaxed approach suited the casual and laid-back vibe of their wedding perfectly. The focus was on authentic, candid moments, capturing the joy and warmth of the day as it unfolded.

After the ceremony, which was filled with heartfelt moments, the couple mingled with their guests, enjoying drinks and conversation under the shade of the trees. It was a wonderfully relaxed and intimate atmosphere, allowing everyone to truly celebrate together. As the sun began to dip, everyone was invited through the field to the marquee, where a delicious feast was served, followed by heartfelt speeches that had guests laughing, wiping away tears, and celebrating the couple’s love.

As evening fell, the festivities continued with the traditional first dance, which soon gave way to a lively, full dance floor. The joy and energy of the night were contagious, and the celebration carried on well into the evening, a perfect reflection of Laura and Joseph’s easygoing and genuine love for each other.
