Tortworth Court Wedding Photography
A More Natural Approach to Wedding Photography
Here are some examples of my Tortworth Court wedding photography that I have created for previous bride and grooms. Tortworth Court is a Grade II listed Victorian Gothic mansion located in the county of Gloucestershire on the fringes of the Cotswolds. Following a multi million pound restoration by the De Vere hotel group is it now a luxurious hotel boasting 30 acres of stunning surroundings including its own arboretum. Whilst the hotel boasts a suite that can accommodate up to 280 guests, also in the grounds is The Orangery, built in 1874 perfect for hosting weddings and private events for up to 100 people within its ornate Victorian grandeur. This traditional hotel lies just north of the city of Bristol, with easy access from the M5. Alternative dining options include a formal oak-panelled restaurant in the old library, plus a glass-enclosed courtyard bistro.
The estate’s history dates back to the 11th century, when ‘Torteword Manor’ was recorded in the Domesday book. In the 14th century during the reign of Edward I, Tortworth belonged to the wealthy nobleman, Sir Nicholas Kingston, followed by the De Veel and Throckmorton families for 200 years, before it was was purchased by Sir William Ducie. It was the ancestral seat of the Ducie family for 350 years. The mansion as you see today was built between 1849 and 1853 in the Gothic Victorian architectural style that was popular at the time. In 1991 the court was sold by the Ducie family with the intention of converting the house into flats, though a major fire led to it being derelict for a decade until it was restored into a luxury hotel.
“We recently had our beautiful wedding pictures through after getting married in Tortworth Court in November, where we had Sacha as our photographer.”
“He was very friendly and professional, going through everything with us and putting us at ease. I didn’t want to have (many)posed wedding pictures, and that’s one of the main reasons we went with Sacha. We also had to postpone the wedding and he accommodated this with no fuss.”
Tortworth Court Wedding Photography
Wedding photography at Tortworth Court offers an exceptional combination of architectural grandeur and natural beauty. This Victorian mansion hotel, set within acres of landscaped grounds in South Gloucestershire, provides a refined and atmospheric backdrop for weddings throughout the year.
The exterior of Tortworth Court is particularly striking. Its ornate façade, turrets, and historic detailing create a sense of occasion from the moment guests arrive. For photography, this lends itself to elegant wide-angle compositions that capture both the scale of the building and the intimacy of the couple. The long driveway approach and manicured lawns provide ideal settings for relaxed group photographs and timeless portraits.
One of the venue’s most distinctive features is its impressive glass-roofed atrium. Flooded with natural light, it offers a bright and airy setting for ceremonies and drinks receptions, regardless of the season. From a photographic perspective, this controlled, diffused light is invaluable, ensuring flattering tones and clarity while retaining the grandeur of the interior architecture.
The grounds at Tortworth Court are equally appealing. Mature trees, landscaped gardens, and secluded pathways create opportunities for more informal and romantic imagery. In autumn, the changing foliage adds warmth and depth to portraits, while in spring and summer the greenery frames couples beautifully against the historic stonework.
As the day progresses into evening, the building takes on a different character. Subtle exterior lighting and candlelit interiors contribute to a warm, atmospheric ambience that is particularly suited to storytelling photography. Capturing speeches, first dances, and candid moments within such an elegant setting allows the narrative of the wedding day to unfold naturally.
Tortworth Court offers versatility, heritage, and visual richness, qualities that make it an outstanding choice for couples seeking timeless and sophisticated wedding photography.

“Sacha was fantastic! I was very specific in wanting to capture the narrative of the day and that I wanted atmosphere over posed photographs.”
“I have a background in Fine Art and Sacha was the only wedding photographer I liked, so I was very happy that he was able to do our wedding. He even ran into the sea with us for some quirky shots in the wind and rain! He never complained despite getting soaked and the photos captured such a beautiful vibe of the day. I would highly recommend him.”
