Gloucestershire wedding photography at Tortworth Court
Tortworth Court is a Grade II listed Victorian Gothic mansion located in the county of Gloucestershire on the fringes of the Cotswolds. Following a multi million pound restoration by the De Vere hotel group is it now a luxurious hotel boasting 30 acres of stunning surroundings including its own arboretum. Whilst the hotel boasts a suite that can accommodate up to 280 guests, also in the grounds is The Orangery, built in 1874 perfect for hosting weddings and private events for up to 100 people within its ornate Victorian grandeur. This traditional hotel lies just north of the city of Bristol, with easy access from the M5. Alternative dining options include a formal oak-panelled restaurant in the old library, plus a glass-enclosed courtyard bistro.
The estate’s history dates back to the 11th century, when ‘Torteword Manor’ was recorded in the Domesday book. In the 14th century during the reign of Edward I, Tortworth belonged to the wealthy nobleman, Sir Nicholas Kingston, followed by the De Veel and Throckmorton families for 200 years, before it was was purchased by Sir William Ducie. It was the ancestral seat of the Ducie family for 350 years. The mansion as you see today was built between 1849 and 1853 in the Gothic Victorian architectural style that was popular at the time. In 1991 the court was sold by the Ducie family with the intention of converting the house into flats, though a major fire led to it being derelict for a decade until it was restored into a luxury hotel.
