I photographed this Monmouthshire wedding on Boxing Day 2018. To be honest I was in two minds on whether to accept a wedding commission on such a public holiday, but when Tessa and John mentioned their marriage ceremony was to take place at the Church of Saint John the Baptist in Llanrothel, Monmouthshire I became quite intrigued. This is no ordinary church, being located in the middle of a field, with only a muddy dirt track as access. The church has no heating or electricity, combined with a 3.30pm marriage ceremony time in the winter, it was to be quite a technical challenge from a photographic point of view. The marriage ceremony was illuminated with soft, flickering candle light. It was dusk by the time we left the church and with no street lighting it was a quick confetti throw and congratulations before slipping the wellies back on to trudge along the muddy field to our cars before darkness descended. The wedding reception took place at Tessa’s family home a short drive away. Champagne was served in the lounge and for the wedding breakfast, guests were escorted to the barn, warmed by a log fire and decorated by seasonal foliage.
“Wonderful photographs”
“Thank you so much again, they’re so beautiful!”
