Nestled amongst the classical architecture of the university buildings in Cathays Park in Cardiff, South Wales sits the strikingly contradictory art deco gem that is the Temple of Peace. This secular structure designed by Sir Percy Thomas had big ambitions when it was founded in 1938 by David Davies, 1st Baron Davies. It had two main objectives, firstly to home the King Edward VII Welsh National Memorial Association, a voluntary organisation dedicated to the prevention, treatment and eradication of tuberculosis. Secondly to accomodate the Welsh National Council of the League of Nations Union to promote world peace following the horrors of Word War I. These days it is a much more versatile venue, hosting weddings and events, live performances and has also used as location backdrop in many popular TV shows and films.
Today however, on Saturday 9th April 2022 it was to provider the location for the marriage ceremony of Caitlin and Jack. They decided to exchange their nuptials in the ornate Marble Hall within the Temple. Then after a few portraits in Alexandra Gardens, they returned to their guests at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
“Thank you every so much, we are delighted with the photos. Looking through them has brought back the emotions of the day and we are so glad to have them to look back on the memories. These are really special. We particularly love the photos of the Temple of Peace with the sun shining in. Many thanks for sending them over so quickly and for all your help on the day. We really appreciate it.”
