Manorbier Castle Wedding Photography
A More Natural Approach to Wedding Photography
Here are some examples of my Manorbier Castle wedding photography that I have captured for previous bride and goom’s. Manorbier Castle or Castell Maenorbŷr, as it is know in Welsh, is a Norman fortress located in the village of Manorbier, approximately five miles southwest of Tenby in West Wales. It was originally built on land granted to Odo de Barri, a Norman knight, at the end of the 11th century. In 1146 Gerald of Wales, the scholar known as Geraldus Cambrensis was born at the castle, who wrote of his birthplace, “In all the broad lands of Wales, Manorbier is the most pleasant place by far”. Perched high above Manorbier beach, this Norman Castle can only be described as a unique wedding venue, providing an idyllic setting for a Pembrokeshire wedding photographer.
Manorbier Castle Wedding Photography
Wedding photography at Manorbier Castle offers something truly special — a blend of medieval history, coastal beauty, and exclusive-use freedom in the heart of West Wales. Overlooking the rugged Pembrokeshire coastline near the village of Manorbier, this remarkable castle provides a dramatic and atmospheric backdrop unlike any other.
Manorbier is an enclosure-style Norman castle, defined by its imposing curtain walls and distinctive mix of round and square towers. Today, these historic towers form part of charming on-site cottages that can accommodate up to twenty guests, allowing couples and their closest family and friends to stay within the castle walls. This sense of privacy and immersion in history creates a wonderfully relaxed and intimate atmosphere across the entire wedding weekend.
The main entrance to the inner ward is through a striking medieval tower gateway, complete with portcullis, embrasures, and a heavy iron-studded wooden door. Stepping through into the enclosed garden feels like entering another era. The lawned inner courtyard is where drinks receptions can take place, framed by ancient stone walls that add texture and character to every photograph. For larger celebrations, an elegant marquee can be pitched within the grounds, offering a beautiful contrast between soft contemporary styling and centuries-old architecture.
The castle’s private chapel is one of its most enchanting features. Built around 1260, it can host wedding ceremonies for up to 70 guests. The elaborate vaulted ceiling and surviving fragments of medieval frescoes create a unique and atmospheric setting for exchanging vows. The rustic charm of the stone walls and historic plasterwork gives ceremony photographs a timeless, almost cinematic quality. For smaller weddings of up to forty guests, the vaulted undercroft beneath the chapel provides an intimate and characterful space for the wedding breakfast, lit softly to enhance its historic ambience.
One of Manorbier’s most magical features is its proximity to the sea. A historic postern gate once provided direct access to the beach below, and while it is a short walk, adventurous couples are often rewarded with breathtaking coastal portraits. The sweeping views over Manorbier Bay, especially at golden hour, create dramatic, windswept imagery that perfectly complements the castle setting.
Because Manorbier Castle is privately owned and offered for exclusive use, couples often celebrate across an entire weekend. This allows time to explore the beach, enjoy relaxed gatherings with guests, and create natural, unhurried photographic moments beyond the wedding day itself.
Wedding photography at Manorbier Castle is about atmosphere, heritage, and landscape. From medieval stone archways to coastal sunsets, it provides an extraordinary canvas for images that feel romantic, dramatic, and deeply rooted in Welsh history.

“Sacha was fantastic! I was very specific in wanting to capture the narrative of the day and that I wanted atmosphere over posed photographs.”
“I have a background in Fine Art and Sacha was the only wedding photographer I liked, so I was very happy that he was able to do our wedding. He even ran into the sea with us for some quirky shots in the wind and rain! He never complained despite getting soaked and the photos captured such a beautiful vibe of the day. I would highly recommend him.”
