Lake Vyrnwy Hotel and Spa commands one of the best views I have ever had the privilege to photograph. On the 12th of July 2022 I had travelled through Mid Wales, to the edge of Powys, where the Snowdonia National Park begins its journey through to North Wales. Today’s bride and groom, had asked if I would join them and their family for a few hours to document the marriage ceremony at the hotel. And then also provide some portraits utilising the magnificent Welsh countryside landscape. The lake is actually a reservoir, built in 1880 to provide the growing city of Liverpool with a supply of freshwater. It was created by flooding the valley and submerging the village of Llandwddyn. Whose residents where built new homes and churches below the massive stone dam, that the largest in Britain at the time and still attracts tourists to the area. The ares also benefits from water activities on the lake such as canoeing and rowing. Also as a nature reserve, it is very popular with bird watchers and hikers. Though rather contradictionarly with all of this peace and quiet, the area is also used by the military for training troops and pilots. We were in fact joined by an army helicopter whilst photographing the bride and groom by the lake edge. The pilot having noticed the waving bride and groom, swooped around to say and hello. The force of the blades, pushing water spray over the posing couple, much to their delight and amusement. They returned to their family back at the hotel with a great story to tell.
“Sacha was such a professional! He went above and beyond to create beautiful photographs of our wedding. Sacha knew how to work the guests to get them laughing, he just blends in, you know he’s there in the corner of your eye but he’s working his magic circling everyone, documenting every hug, ugly laugh and tear shed. Our photos are our favourite purchase. If you want natural, beautifully composed photos that tell your story, then Sacha is the photographer for you. Thanks again.”
