Somerset Wedding Photography at Coombe Lodge
Here is some examples of my previous Coombe Lodge wedding photography assignments. Coombe Lodge is an exclusive country mansion nestled at the foot of the Mendip Hills near the village of Blagdon in Somerset. It was built by the Wills family who owned a tobacco company in the nearby city of Bristol.
Built on the foundations of a 18th century house, the mansion you see today was completed in 1932. Designed by the renowned Sir George Oatley, it is made from Bath stone with a Cotswold stone roof in a Jacobean architectural aesthetic. The wood panelled corridor and lobby make for an elegant setting for the drinks reception if shelter is required from the.
Alternatively the manicured gardens that surround the mansion provide a beautiful exterior landscape when the British climate allows. And for those perfect summer days, there is even an option to host your marriage ceremony outside within the three walled alcove provided at the rear of the house.
Otherwise the light and airy music room, with its large bay windows overlooking the front gardens can host both the ceremony and the wedding breakfast for up to 160 people. There is also accomodation on site, with twelve large and sumptuously decorated bedrooms located on the upper floors of the main. A further ten bedrooms can found in the latest addition to the estate, namely the secluded garden house, which is only a short walking distance from the mansion.
“We genuinely don’t know how to thank you for giving us the most beautiful wedding photographs. We hardly noticed you were there most of the time, yet somehow you managed to capture such happiness, laughter and emotion – a true reflection of our special day. We cannot stop looking at them and reliving all of the wonderful memories.”
Wedding Photography at Coombe Lodge
Wedding photography at Coombe Lodge offers a composed and elegant setting within the Somerset countryside. Located near Blagdon and set within landscaped gardens, the venue combines a grand country house exterior with well-designed contemporary interiors. For couples seeking a structured yet scenic backdrop for their wedding day, Coombe Lodge provides a balanced environment that supports both formal and natural photographic coverage.
Architectural Presence and Grounds
The exterior of Coombe Lodge is defined by its warm stone façade, symmetrical design and elevated position overlooking the surrounding countryside. The terrace and steps at the rear of the house are particularly effective for group photographs, allowing clear organisation of family formals while incorporating expansive rural views.
The landscaped gardens and manicured lawns provide additional flexibility. Open green space allows for relaxed couple portraits without visual clutter, while mature trees and hedged borders introduce texture and depth. The grounds are easily accessible from the main reception areas, which enables efficient transitions between indoor and outdoor photography without disrupting the flow of the day.
Seasonal changes also enhance the visual character of the venue. Spring and summer bring vibrant greenery and longer daylight hours, while autumn offers warmer tones across the surrounding landscape. Even in winter, the clean architectural lines of the building provide a consistent and understated backdrop.
Ceremony and Interior Spaces
Coombe Lodge is licensed for civil ceremonies, allowing preparation, ceremony and reception to take place on site. The ceremony room benefits from generous natural light, supported by neutral décor and high ceilings. This combination ensures clarity in images and accurate colour reproduction, particularly during key moments such as vows and ring exchanges.
Interior reception spaces are modern yet restrained in design. Large windows frame countryside views, integrating the landscape into indoor imagery. The clean aesthetic allows floral arrangements and table styling to stand out without competing with ornate surroundings. For photographers, this simplicity supports a timeless style that will remain relevant over time.
Reception and Evening Coverage
The reception rooms at Coombe Lodge are well proportioned, allowing for unobtrusive documentation of speeches and guest interactions. Clear sightlines make it possible to capture both speakers and audience reactions effectively. The venue’s lighting transitions smoothly from daylight to evening ambience, supporting consistent image quality throughout the event.
As the celebration progresses, the interior lighting creates a warm yet controlled atmosphere for first dances and evening photography. The terrace also remains a useful location for short evening portraits, particularly at sunset when the surrounding hills soften in tone.
Coombe Lodge Wedding Day Stories
In summary, wedding photography at Coombe Lodge is defined by structure, light and countryside views. Its combination of architectural clarity and accessible grounds offers couples a reliable and visually coherent setting for documenting their wedding day with professionalism and restraint.

“Sacha was fantastic! I was very specific in wanting to capture the narrative of the day and that I wanted atmosphere over posed photographs.”
“I have a background in Fine Art and Sacha was the only wedding photographer I liked, so I was very happy that he was able to do our wedding. He even ran into the sea with us for some quirky shots in the wind and rain! He never complained despite getting soaked and the photos captured such a beautiful vibe of the day. I would highly recommend him.”
Laura & Thomas
