Welsh Countryside Wedding – Sarah & Daniel

Here are a few of the photographs that I took for Sarah and Daniel at their Welsh countryside wedding. They really wanted their day to flow as naturally as possible. As ever my photographic approach reflected this, with no hinderance or instruction given for the vast majority of the day.

I literally photographed what I witnessed, the unrehearsed, the real life experience that formulates true memories. There were a few group photographs of course, requested by close family and friends. These were efficiently captured during the drinks reception and a handful of editorial style portraits of the bride and groom as their guests were seated for the wedding breakfast. Then later in the day because the evening August sun had created a warm golden glow across the neighbouring field. It would have been a shame not to make the most of this landscape and it took less than a few minutes, and also provides a quiet opportunity for the bride and groom to reflect on the loving atmosphere of the day. Serendipitously the farmer who owned the field, was a guest at the wedding, so he was more than happy to give us permission to tip toe through the wheat to find the best light.

I was photographed the wedding from the bridal preparations to the dancing in the late evening, so for around twelve hours in all, and I think including the formal stuff, i.e the group photographs and the portrait session would of been a total of twenty minutes. And when I say portrait session, this genuinely is asking the bride and groom to just go for a little stroll and then pause a while, in a scene I have already noted that offers a pleasing light and an aesthetic background. So even for the more camera shy of clients, my method of approaching these more directed types of photographs, are quite literally, a walk in the park.

So to the logistics of the day; the bridal preparations took place at Harry’s Cottages at Bentra Farmhouse, in the village of Llangovan, Monmouthshire, South Wales. The church marriage ceremony took place at St Dingat’s Church in the village of Dingestow, where the year previously I photographed the wedding of Menna and Josh. The reception was hosted on a family farm, where a tipi had been pitched in the ‘back garden’. Sarah was dressed elegantly by Natalya James, hair and make up by The Bridal Gals and flowers designed by The Bloom Room.

“Oh my gosh Sacha!!! These are so wonderful, thank you so so much!”

“You were fantastic on the day, thank you for all your hard work! “
