Here are a few photographs from the gallery of Caryl and Edward’s wedding in Carmarthenshire, West Wales. I photographed this day in April 2025, a few months ago now and with it being the height of wedding season it was quite nice to pause in between shoots and look back over recent work. After some quick maths, this collection represents just over 11% of the full gallery, so it was a full on day and very difficult to select favourites for this blog post.
As with all genres of photography, the wedding industry has its’ trends, currently there is a desire for more editorial style photographs, where great pains have been taken to make the portraits look natural, rather than just be natural. I prefer to keep patience with the natural flow of the day and wait for the ‘photogenic’ moments to happen, Though as always in the back of my mind, I have the opinion that you should not bring preconceived ideas to any wedding. Yes, a wedding day does generally follow a schedule, but this is just logistics. All people are different and will celebrate a wedding differently. It is this rich tapestry of human kind I like to document on a wedding day. Sometimes this is chaos and cluttered but it is always real, story telling coverage with integrity.
By taking a more observational approach, the resulting gallery offers a sense of intimacy, allowing the viewer to experience the atmosphere and emotion of the day as if they had been there themselves.
My day started at the Cawdor Hotel in Llandeilo, before meeting up with the bride at her family home in the Carmarthenshire countryside. Where, later in the day the reception would be hosted in a marquee pitched in the garden and catered by team at Pickled Pumpkin. The marriage ceremony took place at St Michael’s Church in the village of Llanfihangel-Uwch-Gwili. As you can see from the images, these guys really knew how to have a good time, after rain drove everyone into the marquee, they decided to start the arty early, with a full dance floor before the food the served. After photography over 800 weddings I think I have seen this only a few times.
