Wedding photography from Insole Court, Cardiff, South Wales
A collection of images and blog posts featuring my wedding photography at Insole Court showcases one of Cardiff’s most characterful and historically rich wedding venues. This striking Grade II listed mansion, set within landscaped gardens in the Llandaff area of Cardiff, offers couples an elegant yet relaxed setting that feels both grand and welcoming.

Originally built in 1856 by James Harvey Insole, the estate was a reflection of the family’s success during South Wales’ industrial boom. The Insole family amassed considerable wealth through the thriving coal industry and maritime trade, and their prosperity was embodied in the scale and architectural detail of the house. Between 1905 and 1909, during a period of Edwardian optimism, George Frederick Insole expanded the property significantly, doubling its size and adding further refinement to its interiors.
Following the First World War, however, the family’s fortunes declined. In 1932, the estate was purchased by the city of Cardiff, and over time much of the original grounds were repurposed for surrounding roads and housing. Although the house continued to serve the local community for decades, it gradually fell into disrepair.
Thankfully, thanks to the dedication of a passionate local action group and significant lottery and charitable funding, Insole Court has been lovingly restored to its former glory. Today, the beautifully refurbished mansion retains its period charm — ornate fireplaces, decorative ceilings, sweeping staircases, and large sash windows — while the converted stables and outbuildings now house stylish event spaces, a welcoming café, and a gift shop.
From a wedding photography perspective, Insole Court is a wonderfully versatile venue. The ceremony rooms are light-filled and elegant, offering soft natural light that is perfect for capturing emotional, documentary-style moments during the vows. The grand staircase is a favourite spot for timeless bridal portraits, while the intricate architectural details add texture and depth to close-up images.
Outside, the gardens provide a peaceful retreat from the city. Mature trees, winding paths, and seasonal planting create beautiful backdrops for couple portraits and relaxed drinks receptions. Even though the estate sits within Cardiff, it feels surprisingly secluded — allowing for romantic outdoor photographs without distraction.
Insole Court hosts a limited number of weddings each year, which helps maintain an exclusive and personal atmosphere. The venue can accommodate up to 90 guests during the day and 150 in the evening, making it ideal for both intimate celebrations and lively parties. Couples can choose from thoughtfully designed in-house packages or work with some of South Wales’ leading catering companies, including creative street food options that add personality to the day.
Wedding photography at Insole Court is about capturing heritage, elegance, and genuine moments in a setting that has been carefully brought back to life. Its blend of Victorian grandeur and contemporary restoration provides a unique canvas for images that feel timeless, romantic, and distinctly Cardiff.

“Sacha was fantastic! I was very specific in wanting to capture the narrative of the day and that I wanted atmosphere over posed photographs.”
“I have a background in Fine Art and Sacha was the only wedding photographer I liked, so I was very happy that he was able to do our wedding. He even ran into the sea with us for some quirky shots in the wind and rain! He never complained despite getting soaked and the photos captured such a beautiful vibe of the day. I would highly recommend him.”

On the day you hardly knew Sacha was there but the photos showed he was everywhere!! We are so happy and proud of the photos.”
