Cawdor Hotel Wedding Photography
A More Natural Approach to Wedding Photography
Cawdor Hotel is boutique hotel located in the county of Carmarthenshire, West Wales. This former coaching inn dating from 1796 can be found in the heart of the historic market town of Llandeilo on the banks of River Tywi. The town was named after the 6th century Celtic Saint Teilo, a contemporary of the patron saint of Wales, Saint David. Below is collection of assignments I have been commissioned to complete as a Cawdor Hotel wedding photographer.
Choosing the right wedding venue is one of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your big day and for many couples in South Wales, Cawdor Arms Hotel in Llandeilo stands out as a truly unforgettable choice. With its historic charm, boutique hotel atmosphere, and central location in one of Carmarthenshire’s most picturesque market towns, the Cawdor Arms offers a wonderful backdrop for stunning wedding photography.
A Venue Full of Character
The Cawdor Arms isn’t just another hotel, it is a Grade II listed Georgian building that exudes character from the moment you arrive. Its striking red exterior is instantly recognisable in Llandeilo, and its interiors, a blend of historic charm and contemporary comfort, make for beautiful documentary and portrait photography throughout the day.
Photographers love venues with personality, and the Cawdor Arms delivers on that front. From cosy corners by the fireside to sophisticated dining rooms with natural light flooding through bay windows, each space provides a unique setting for capturing the full story of your wedding day.
Ceremonies That Are Truly Unique
One of the standout features of weddings at the Cawdor Arms is the licenced wedding ceremony space within Ty Horeb, a former Wesleyan chapel dating back to 1810. This beautifully restored area is perfect for civil ceremonies, offering historic architecture, warm natural light, and a sense of intimacy that translates wonderfully in photographs.
Wedding photographers often remark on how the chapel’s character adds depth to images whether you’re documenting emotional vows, candid reactions, or creative portraits of the couple. Shooting this part of the day feels special because Ty Horeb is a venue within a venue, a hidden gem that elevates ceremony photography beyond the ordinary.
Flexible Spaces for Every Moment
After the ceremony, wedding photography opportunities continue throughout the hotel. The Cawdor Arms can seat up to around 130 guests for your wedding breakfast and accommodate even larger numbers for evening celebrations.
The Georgian dining room, with its elegant wooden floors, soft light, and welcoming atmosphere, creates an ideal setting for capturing speeches, candid guest interactions, and tightly composed detail shots of table setups and décor. Great wedding photography is not just about formal couple portraits; it is about telling the complete story of your day, and the Cawdor Arms offers spaces that feel both personal and photogenic from morning through evening.
Portraits On Location and In the Town
One of the biggest advantages of photographing weddings at the Cawdor Arms is its location in the heart of Llandeilo market town. Just beyond the hotel entrance are charming streets, colourful buildings, and a variety of scenic backdrops, perfect for creative portrait sessions with your bridal party or romantic couple shots.
Many photographers also recommend venturing slightly further afield for portraits. Nearby attractions like Aberglasney Gardens offer peaceful garden scenery, arching yew trees, and lush greenery that can beautifully complement the more structured elegance of the hotel. This combination of historic interiors and vibrant outdoor locations results in a wide-ranging wedding gallery that truly reflects your day.
The Cawdor Experience — From Prep to Party
For photographers, the flow of a wedding day matters. The Cawdor Arms offers spaces that work seamlessly from bridal preparation to evening celebrations. Pre-wedding shots in the hotel bedrooms or salon areas are naturally lit and relaxed, making it easy to capture those personal moments from putting on wedding attire to quiet time with close friends and family.
As the day transitions into evening, the hotel’s lively reception spaces with excellent acoustics and room for dance floor fun provide opportunities for dynamic photography as the celebration kicks up a notch. Every laugh, toast, and dance move becomes a memory preserved in images that tell the emotion of your day from start to finish.
Why Couples and Photographers Love It
Whether you’re planning an intimate wedding or a larger celebration, the Cawdor Arms in Llandeilo combines historical elegance, boutique charm, and photographic potential in one place. Its blend of stunning interiors, versatile photograph locations in the town, and a truly warm wedding experience makes it a favourite among couples and wedding photographers alike throughout Carmarthenshire and beyond.

“Sacha was fantastic! I was very specific in wanting to capture the narrative of the day and that I wanted atmosphere over posed photographs.”
“I have a background in Fine Art and Sacha was the only wedding photographer I liked, so I was very happy that he was able to do our wedding. He even ran into the sea with us for some quirky shots in the wind and rain! He never complained despite getting soaked and the photos captured such a beautiful vibe of the day. I would highly recommend him.”
