Welsh Marquee Wedding – Amelia & Mike

I think one of the most common types of weddings I get chosen as the photographer, is those self hosting with a marquee in a field. I guess it tends to attract brides and grooms who wish to host wedding day on their terms, especially in some rural areas where there is a limited choice of venue that can host a large wedding. Though it is not for the faint hearted, whilst a venue will perhaps have certain restraints, they will do much of the heavy lifting in the logistics department. Self hosting, the pressure is one to get all the planning done before, leaving the wedding free of administrative jobs so everyone can relax and enjoy the day. As a photographer for these types of weddings my approach needs to be relaxed but adaptable, with the ability to document the day in whatever flow it takes. To roll with the chaos, where I often find the most action packed images can be found.

Amelia and Mike held their wedding in May 2025, I met up with groom in the morning at The Cawdor Hotel in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, where he was getting ready with his groomsmen. The bride was nearby at her parents’ home, where the marquee was pitched in a neighbouring field. The marriage ceremony took place at St Catherine’s Church in the village of Llangathen. The dress was designed by Madison James, and supplied by Pretty White Dress. The flower display and bouquets were by Dahlia Wood. The wedding breakfast was catered by Holdens.
