On Monday the 2nd of September 2019, I travelled to Somerset to photograph a wedding at Orchardleigh House. I can probably count on one hand how many weddings I have photographed on a Monday. Usually they are quite small low key affairs, but Alex and Gina managed to put on a lavish affair, filled with tears, laughter, singing and dancing. A lot of guest had travelled from the bride’s native Australia, so I suppose when you have transverse half the globe, which day of the week the wedding is on is not really relevant. Thanks to the generous accommodation afforded by this Grade II listed Victorian mansion, both the bride and groom were able to get dressed on site. I was then able to split my photographic coverage between the two parties, before meeting up for the marriage ceremony. This took place outside within the formal gardens of this sprawling country estate. This young couple were quite happy in front of the camera, so asked me to do several portraits within the landscape, but still keeping a natural aesthetic. This was followed by a collection of family and friend group photographs whilst the drinks reception was enjoyed in the gardens. Before long guests were called back in to Orchardleigh House for the wedding breakfast was to be served. This was made all the more entertaining thanks to a surprise performance from some singing waiters who managed to get the whole room dancing in between courses. Once food was cleared away it was time for some speeches, which true to their nature produced tears of both emotion and laughter. With the night came the couples first dance as the evening celebrations began.
