A couple of weeks ago I met up with Emily and Nicholas for a pre wedding shoot in the Botanical Gardens of Bath.
As a documentary wedding photographer I do a limited amount of portrait work during a wedding, at the bride and groom’s discretion they normally request just a few minutes so that can get back to enjoy the company of their guests. Emily and Nicholas were keen to have a little pre wedding portrait session, for two reasons, firstly to gain some nice images to use for the wedding tables and guest book, also to settle a few nerves about being photographed. A lot of my clients do not enjoy posing, so I try to employ the least amount of direction as possible during these sessions, basically I ask them to have a slow romantic walk in the park and I would give slight prompts when I see an photogenic opportunity.
The weather was good for a change and the very first signs of Spring were evident, we even managed to see a small collection of bluebells in bloom, which we very carefully tip toed through to find a bare patch to pose in. I look forward to seeing Emily and Nicholas again at their wedding later this year.
