Here are some of my favourite images from the wedding day of Helen and Ian, who were married on 23rd July 2011 at St Mary’s RC Church in Monmouth. The reception was held at Llansantffraed Court Hotel near Abergavenny in South Wales, the day was full of beautiful sunshine and the laughter of children as they played in the hotel garden and even a couple of animals; Helen and Ian’s pet labrador made an appearance and as a surprise the parents had organised for the bride and groom to release two white doves, with all these animals and children something was bound to go wrong – though it was just the early escape of one dove much to the amusement of the crowd and to the surprise of the groom standing next to it at the time!
Helen and Ian asked me to photograph the whole day up until the first dance, as everyone recovered form the speeches and before the dance floor was prepared I asked the bride and groom to spare a little time to utilise the amazing light caused by the evening sun. I am primarily a documentary wedding photographer, but it seemed a shame not to use the wonderful ambience, it took maybe ten minutes with little direction, just a short walk to the lake in the hotel grounds.
