A More Natural Approach to Wedding Photography

Here are some examples of my Fairyhill wedding photography. This exclusive-use venue is tucked away near the village of Reynoldston on the breathtaking Gower Peninsula in South Wales. A location that offers one of the most spectacular natural backdrops in the UK for wedding photography.

“Wow! Thank you so much Sacha!!! You’ve captured the day perfect for us. We can’t wait to show our friends and family. Thank you for being our wedding photographer”

Gower, part of the historic county of Glamorgan, was designated the UK’s very first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956 — and with good reason. The peninsula stretches westward into the Bristol Channel, covering around 70 square kilometres of diverse landscape. From rolling rural countryside to dramatic limestone cliffs and vast sandy beaches, the scenery here adds a sense of scale and atmosphere that is hard to rival. For couples marrying at Fairyhill, this means the opportunity for romantic portraits framed by woodland, gardens, and — just a short drive away — iconic coastal views.

Fairyhill House itself is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion, rich in character and history. Much of its early story remains unknown until it came into the possession of the Lucas family in the early 1700s — a family deeply rooted in Gower’s heritage for over 500 years. One ancestor famously fought for King Charles I during the Civil War before being executed on the orders of Oliver Cromwell. Originally known as Peartree, the house was renamed Fairyhill by John Lucas in 1795.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the property passed through several notable owners, including Lady Diana Barham and Reverend Samuel Phillips, before being maintained by the Benson family, whose patriarch was a former mayor of Swansea. After a period of decline following the Second World War, Fairyhill was lovingly restored in 1982 and reopened as a hotel.

In 2018, the venue entered an exciting new chapter under the ownership of the team behind the Oldwalls Collection, specialists in luxury wedding venues. A striking contemporary extension was added to the west wing, a wood-and-glass structure with floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic woodland views. This architectural contrast between historic Georgian elegance and modern design creates incredible variety for wedding photography. Natural light floods the ceremony space, making it ideal for soft, romantic images, while the grounds provide endless options for relaxed couple portraits and candid guest moments.

Today, Fairyhill seamlessly blends heritage, landscape, and contemporary luxury. For wedding photography, it offers not only visual beauty but atmosphere. A venue where history, nature, and celebration come together to create timeless, story-driven imagery.

“Sacha was fantastic! I was very specific in wanting to capture the narrative of the day and that I wanted atmosphere over posed photographs.”

“I have a background in Fine Art and Sacha was the only wedding photographer I liked, so I was very happy that he was able to do our wedding. He even ran into the sea with us for some quirky shots in the wind and rain! He never complained despite getting soaked and the photos captured such a beautiful vibe of the day. I would highly recommend him.”

“Sacha was great in the lead up the wedding; listening and understanding what we wanted from the day as well as working with us to accommodate the different locations of the bridal party and ensuring photos were taken in all. On the day you hardly knew Sacha was there but the photos showed he was everywhere!! We are so happy and proud of the photos.”
