Lucy and Andrew held their Cottrell Park wedding on the 2nd June 2016. Below is a small collection of the wedding photographs that I created for the happy couple. My coverage started at the brides’ mothers home in South Wales for the bridal party preparations. The marriage ceremony took place in her home town of Maesteg at St Michael’s Church, where she surprised guests and onlookers by arriving in a horse and carriage. The wedding reception was hosted at Cottrell Park, a new golf resort that includes two championship courses. It also has a permanent marquee constructed next to the club house to house weddings and corporate functions, where you are treated to a view of the 18th hole fairway and green.
The Cottrell Park is situated near the village of St Nicholas in the Vale of Glamorgan. It has only been a golf course since 1996, previously it was mainly agriculture land as part of the Cottrell Estate, which derived its name from the family who held the Medieval Manor of Trehill. Several other families, who played notable roles in the History of Glamorgan and Great Britain resided at Cottrell, namely the Merrick’s, the Button’s and the Tyler’s. These families provided lords, governors, sheriffs, naval explorers and politicians, notable achievements of their descendants include one who signed the Declaration of Independence at Philadelphia in 1776 and another who commanded one of Nelson’s flagships in the Battle of Trafaglar. Sadly, the original manor house was demolished in 1972, being declared unfit for habitation.
