A few days before Christmas I photographed the wedding of Helen and Michael on the 20th December 2014. They hosted their celebrations at Buckland Hall, a country mansion nestled amongst the stunning scenery of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. As with many of these old grand houses, it has a rich history featuring princes and and lords and the inevitable fire, but it also boasts a link with the Lord of the Rings, which apparently features its name after J R R Tolkien had written part of his book during a visit to a nearby village.
The bridal party prepared for the day in one of the large rooms at Buckland with the groom and his best-man just down the hall. The marriage took place in the main hall, shadowed by an enormous Christmas tree, which I assumed was plucked from the surrounding Welsh mountain side. The reception slipped effortlessly into the evening when the dancing began accompanied by music provided by a selection of the guests who each did a shift at the turn tables.
