On the 4th October 2014, I photographed the Hindu marriage ceremony at Sonalle and Adams’ Cardiff Castle wedding. They asked me to provide just a few hours of photographic coverage to capture the traditions and rituals of the blessing and a few group shots in the castle grounds.
Cardiff Castle is a combination of medieval and Victorian Gothic revival architecture and does always provide a challenge for a photographer. Firstly because the undercroft where the ceremony took place has no natural light and the electric lights are set to a dim hue to preserve the atmosphere. Whilst you could use a camera flash, I find this strobe of artificial light quite distracting and is some cases disrespectful, so I prefer to use top quality cameras and the best lenses available which enable me to photograph using just the ambient light, maintaining an unobtrusive approach. Secondly the castle is a very popular tourist destination so you do have to be creative so to avoid getting any unwanted visitors in the background and still utilise the location to its potential.
