On Sunday 15th December 2013 I photographed the wedding of Rachael and Daniel. The day started with the bridal preparations at The Parc Thistle Hotel in Cardiff. The marriage ceremony took place at Cardiff Castle, in the candle lit undercroft. It was a bit dark with no electric lights at all but made for a atmospheric ceremony. The guests then made their way back through the sudden rain showers, whilst a few family photographs were taken in the castle’s drawing room before we all joined the reception at the The Parc Thistle’s wood paneled Whitehall Suite.
Cardiff Castle is in the heart of the city and remains of a wall from a Roman Fort dating back 2000 years can still be seen at the site today. However it was not until 1866 when the 3rd Marquess of Bute employed the genius architect William Burges to transform the castle lodgings, with gothic towers he created lavish and opulent interiors, rich with murals, stained glass, marble, gilding and elaborate wood carvings.
