I photographed Julia and Nik’s wedding on the 21st May 2016 at Caerphilly Castle in South Wales. I started the day with meeting up with the bride as she got ready at the Vale Hotel with her family, who had flown in from their homeland of Germany. I also managed to catch up with the groom at his mother’s house before making my way to the wedding ceremony location at the castle. The weather was not on our side today, with very heavy rainfall preventing any outside photography. Though we managed to make use of the castle’s impressive Great Hall and other interior rooms to shelter from the elements.
Caerphilly Castle dominates the skyline in this Welsh town, originally constructed in the 13th century by Gilbert de Clare. He created this medieval fortification as part of his campaign to conquer Glamorgan.
